Opionion Constitution

Main Principles

Art. 1.

Every idea has the right to be discussed and defended.

Art. 2

Opionion is a project whose purpose is to organize knowledge in issues.
Every issue is structured in opposing sides, developing in layers, so that every idea supported by arguments and counter arguments.

Art. 3

The fundamental unit of an idea is the argument, a line of reasoning that, starting from one or more premises, reaches a conclusion through logical inference.
A new issue can arise from an argument if its logical foundation is itself controversial.

Art. 4

A counterargument is valid only when the challenged argument is logically fallacious or false; a counterargument is not valid if it does not address the argument on its merits. If it responds only to the merits of the issue, it is itself another argument of the opposing side.

Art. 5

The absolute importance of a shared meaning of words, foundation of every issue, is recognized. Where a term is ambiguous, Opionion provides an explicit definition; in all other cases, the commonly accepted meaning applies.

Art. 6

The main goal is to trace the “State of Debate“, allowing users to explore ideas from every side of each issue.

Art. 7

The fundamental principles can’t be removed or changed, and only the founder can make adjustments to clarify the content if necessary.

GENERAL PRINCIPLES

Art. 8 – OPPORTUNITY AND OUTCOME

Opionion guarantees equal argumentative opportunities, but this does not imply equality between the sides, neither in number of arguments nor in quality.

Art. 9 – ACTIVE MEMBERS

Active members of the community are called Opionionists, and can express their opinions (or opionions) respectfully and according to the law, to be discussed.

Art. 10 – AUTHORIAL FILTER

An authorial filter exists and is necessary to distill the essence of discourse, to define the opposing sides, set the priority of issues and arguments to be addressed and their evaluation, with the ultimate goal of guaranteeing the project’s quality.

Art. 11 – SIDES

Opposing sides usually represent the most common opinions about the issue, unless otherwise specified.

Art. 12 – “DEBATE YOURSELF”

Reading only the arguments of your faction is cheating against the spirit of Opionion: “Debate yourself“.

Art. 13 – PERSONAL OPINION

Personal bias is an inevitable human condition and is recognized as such. Intellectual honesty does not require the absence of bias, but rather a constant commitment to transcend it.

Art. 14 – PREFERENCE FOR LOGIC

Opionion has a natural preference for arguments founded on logical-deductive reasoning, while recognizing that empirical data is an essential tool for the validation of an idea. Rational demonstration precedes factual evidence, but both contribute to the quality of argument.

Art. 15 – COMPLIANCE

Opionion allows only arguments that respect current law.

Art. 16 – ARGUMENTS EVALUATION CRITERIA

Arguments are classified according to three criteria: persuasive power (Efficacy), relative complexity (Difficulty), and public reach (Popularity). Those criteria are navigation tools, useful to navigate the complexity of ideas, and do not represent a critical judgement of truth.

Art. 17 – OPIONION CHANNELS

Opionion operates on three main channels: website, YouTube and Substack, adapting the format and register to each platform.

THE OPIONIONISTS

Art. 18 – CONTRIBUTORS

In case an Opionionist contributes to the project with a particularly original, effective or rigorous argument, it can be cited as Contributor Opionionist at discretion of the Founder and the Authors.
On YouTube, Contributors are known as experts or witnesses of the trial.

Art. 19 – SUPPORTERS

When an Opionionist materially contributes to the project through donations and/or monthly subscription on the available platforms, obtains the status of Supporter Opionionist, claiming special acknowledgements and exclusive advantages.

Art. 20 – GENERAL SUPPORTERS BENEFITS

As a general rule, the extent of material support for the project is directly proportional to the likelihood of becoming an Contributor Opionionist, to the weight of one’s requests regarding the priority of issues to be addressed.

Subscribing to a monthly membership allows joining a jury that grants access to polls, exclusive content, special previews, and other benefits with increasing privileges, as described below.

Through one time donations or Superchats, users can obtain temporary Advisor Opionionist status, which grants additional priority to their requests.

Art. 21 – JURY

Opionion rewards monthly support by giving access to a system of Juries with progressively increasing privileges, described below. Monthly fees and subscription methods are available on the official YouTube and Substack channels.
In the various Opionion channels, the juries’ opinion verdicts on the issues may be published.

People’s Jury

Exclusive People’s Jury badge and emoji, partecipation to polls regarding issue’s priority and jury’s opinion, priority on issues and arguments submission.

Honor Jury

Additionaly to People’s Jury priviledges, Honor Jury badge and exlusive emoji, exclusive polls vote, higher priority on issues and arguments submission, exclusive content and early access to new contents.

High Jury

Additionaly to Honor Jury priviledges, High Jury badge and exlusive emoji, exclusive polls vote, absolute priority on request submission regarding new issues, arguments and other suggestions.
